WARM COMPRESS

WARM COMPRESS

Place a clean, warm, moist washcloth over the boil and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat this process 3- 4 times a day until the boil is gone

Loose clothing

Reduce friction and wear loose-fitting underwear and clothing until the boil heals. Change into clean, dry underwear after exercise

Do not pop/prick

Do not pick or pierce a boil. Opening a boil can release bacteria and spread the infection. It can also aggravate pain and sensitivity

Cleaning and dressing

If the boil has ruptured, wash the affected area thoroughly; apply an antibiotic ointment such as bacitracin, neomycin, etc. Then cover with sterile gauze or bandage

Washing hands

Wash your hands with antibacterial soap and warm water before touching the boil or the area around it. This will prevent new bacteria from entering the boil

Over-the-counter (OTC) painkillers

OTC pain relievers may be needed to reduce the pain and inflammation caused by the boil
